Toka currently works as an architect and researcher in the fields of urban and social conservation, urban analysis and sustainability, as well as business development. Her interests, professionally and academically, broadly lie within finding data-driven and business-oriented solutions to urban issues and humanitarian crises. Her goal is to delve into the practices of holistic urbanism that are financially sustainable, green, user-focused, and most importantly serve the identity of the people. Due to her background in Economics, she is always interested in how public policy and governments could aid or hinder such urban developments. Toka is a passionate multi-disciplinary learner, interested in constantly broadening her perspectives.
Engaged Sustainable Futures offers a platform for interdisciplinary ventures that aim to uncover the many possible sustainable futures of the built environment. Based in the Department of Architecture at the American University in Cairo, ESF MAM-BE achieves its vision through research, pedagogy, and creation.
